What is Industrial AI?

Industrial AI is the use of artificial intelligence methods in engineering, manufacturing, energy, mobility, and other physical-industrial domains where safety, reliability, and total cost of ownership dominate product criteria.

Unlike consumer-first generative experiences, Industrial AI is judged by measurable operational outcomes: quality, throughput, yield, energy use, maintenance cost, and compliance. Models are typically deployed in the context of existing OT/IT stacks, data historians, MES/ERP boundaries, and formal change management.

The field spans perception and control (vision, signal processing, robotics), forecasting and optimisation, and increasingly agent-style workflows—but anchored to plant reality, domain data, and governance expectations that differ from open-web AI defaults.
