Association Industrial AI
About us
AI² is the professional home for people deploying Industrial AI in engineering, manufacturing, automation, and operations. We exist so practitioners can share what actually works, publish reference material, and turn a standing community into shared standards and best practices.
The Monthly Industrial AI Call has run as a practitioner forum since 2023. In 2025 that community was formalized as Association Industrial AI (AI²) - an independent, member-driven association. Not a conference. Not a vendor. A working infrastructure for applied Industrial AI.
Track record
From community to association
We do not pretend to be older than we are. We do make the history we already have visible - a standing practitioner forum, then a registered association, then expert groups that publish.
Practitioner forum begins
The Monthly Industrial AI Call starts as a standing forum for experts sharing real projects - not hype - across engineering, manufacturing, automation, and operations.
The community takes shape
The monthly rhythm holds. Practitioners from industry, research, and technology join a growing European network of people actually shipping Industrial AI.
Formalized as an association
The practitioner community becomes Association Industrial AI (AI²) - an independent, member-driven association with a mandate for standards, best practices, and applied collaboration.
Expert groups and flagship output
Four expert groups operate with named chairs. The Strategy & business models group publishes the Industrial AI Maturity Model; the Digital Reasoning Thread group releases DRT Loom as open source.
Advisory board
Independent advisors supporting AI² with strategic guidance and cross-industry perspective.
Andrew Smith is Chief Operating Officer at Macco Robotics, a Spanish robotics company building robots for hospitality and food service.
